  • Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, street parades and athletic events.
  • Sales in Labour Day were record-breaking in 2018, collectively spending a jaw-dropping $2.08 billion in one day. The sales growth even surpassed what was seen on both Memorial Day and Independence Day.
  • Labor Day is a major shopping day for many customers, and that discounts attract flocks of happy spenders.
  • The New York parade inspired other unions to have parades. By 1887, Oregon, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Colorado made Labor Day a state holiday.
  • In September 1882, the unions of New York City decided to have a parade to celebrate their members being in unions, and to show support for all unions. At least 20,000 people were there, and the workers had to give up a day’s pay to attend. In 2017, there were 14.8 million union members in the union. 
  • “You can’t wear white after Labour Day” was ruled to separate the old money elitists from the new money group. For those who had money and could leave the city during warmer months, white was considered vacation attire. Meanwhile, white linen suits and Panama hats were considered the “look of leisure.” However, it is no longer followed.
